I should qualify this by saying as in any demographic most of the people are brilliant. But there are always a couple of aresholes who try and spoil it
You know the type I mean
The ‘Know-it –all’s’
The ‘Been there, done it one way and bugger anyone else who disagrees’
I was reminded of this on Facebook this week. I have an advert running for a free dog training eBook that I made.
The eBook is kind of an introduction to me and my business for peeps who don’t know me. They are usually struggling with their dogs and so want to learn more about how to connect and play with them.
It’s a short read but it’s full of really useful information that pet dog owners can put into practise straight away. Many people have contacted me to say that it really helped change the way they now interact with their dogs. (For the better, I should add)
But some people can’t help themselves can they?
And so I get a couple of comments on the advert like…
‘Interesting name, when dogs don’t form packs!!!’
This one always makes me chuckle. See this person is referring to the name of my business ‘Pack Leader Dog Adventures’ The use of the term Pack Leader offends her, as it does with many dog trainers. Some just get their knickers in twist but others foam at the mouth like something out of the exorcist.
They forget that most pet dog owners associate this term with dogs. Quite rightly I think. Yes you should be your dog’s friend and teacher but you bloody well need to be his leader too. A leader ‘leads’ and who doesn't want their dog to follow them?
I lead my dogs by making myself really interesting to them. I play games and I have treats and toys that I use to entertain them and have fun together. And sometimes I even put them on lead to stop them from doing something I don’t want them to. I know! I’m a truly evil leader.
Me being a 'Leader'
The next comment is worth a mention too...
‘I assume your method of getting a dog to focus is going to use treats?’
Well never assume ducky because it makes an ass out of YOU not me
Maybe I will use treats maybe I won’t.
If the dog likes treats then yeah I’m probably going to recommend using treats, I like an easy life and the dog likes treats so it’s a bit of a no brainer not to.
Similarly if the dog likes tennis balls, tangerines or plastic bottles then I will probably use those things to get him to focus on me.
So I guess the moral of the story is you shouldn’t presume or assume anything based on what you see at first glance.
A dog wearing a muzzle may not be dangerous at all and just a prolific poo eater.
A dog owner who doesn’t want you to pet her dog isn’t being selfish, she just knows her dog doesn’t like it and her dogs feeling are more important to her than yours.
And a dog trainer doesn’t need to market himself as the ‘fluffy huggy dog trainer’ to prove he loves dogs and knows how to train them.
Of course if you are unsure about any of the above you could always just ask before you jump to any conclusions.
Keep it unreal
P.S. Let’s talk just dogs for another minute. If you want to know how to be more interesting to your dog than a squirrel or another dog he sees then why not download my FREE eBook here. Just do me one favour, read it before you complain about it
